Attention Ultimate Players!  The season starts as soon as we’re back from spring break! Anyone interested in playing on the team needs to attend a mandatory meeting after school on Wed from 3-3:15pm in room W204 to collect forms and season info. See Ms. Langlois if you can’t make it.

Grade 10 Students – Check your Personal Project Google Classroom for details about what to expect on Thursday, March 7th for the exhibition.  Remember to create a poster board and display before then and bring them to the stage on Thursday morning to get stored there for the day.

Collaboration Block – Thursday, Feb 14th

  • Grade 8 Students will pick up their Term 2 assignment outside the main office for Career Education 8 to complete at school or at home. Digital copies are available on Ms. Jansen’s website. In addition, you will need to pick up an accompanying booklet entitled,What’s the Deal? from the Career Resource office.

*All students including Pursuit, Academy and F.A.S.T. students are required to complete this assignment.

  • Grade 9 are reminded to bring their course selection sheets to block 1-4 today – counsellors will be distributing stickers and then students will input their courses in W104.

Career 9 Assignments are due – hand in to Career Office

  • Grade 10: Students will be meeting with their personal project advisors.  They will submit their final written report on Google Classroom and will also complete and submit their Academic Honesty form #4 after reviewing it with their advisor.  In today’s session, students will be guided on how to prepare their display board for the exhibition which will be due on Thursday, March 7th
  • Grade 11: are reminded to bring their course selection sheets to block 1-4 today – counsellors will be distributing stickers and then students will input their courses in library and upstairs computer lab.
  • Grade12 students should be working independently on or off-site during Collaboration block

International Lunch cancelled.  Refunds for International Lunch tickets will be available in the cafeteria on Thurs. Feb 14, Tues. Feb 19 and Wed. Feb 20th.

Toboggan Races: There will be toboggan races on the field at lunch. All you need is 4 Reindeer and one Santa who can stay on the Sleigh while the Reindeer run through an obstacle course. This is an intramural event with winning T shirts.

  • Grade 8 Students will pick up their Term 2 assignment outside the main office for Career Education 8 to complete at school or at home. Digital copies are available on Ms. Jansen’s website. In addition, you will need to pick up an accompanying booklet entitled,What’s the Deal? from the Career Resource office.

Toboggan Races: There will be toboggan races on the field at lunch on Tuesday. All you need is 4 Reindeer and one Santa who can stay on the Sleigh while the Reindeer run through an obstacle course. This is an intramural event with winning T shirts.

Class AFloat : Imagine sailing around the world in one of those huge tall sailing ships?  Class A Float is a Canadian group out of Acadia University that offers learning opportunities to students in grade 11/12 and first year university on a tall ship.  You can go for one semester or a year.  Come and find out more this amazing program that many Rockridge students have participated in today at lunch in C207.

Basketball season is well underway! Congratulations to our Senior Boys’ who played very well in the Whistler Storm tournament yesterday.  They won their round robin games yet lost by only a few points in the final.  The team played with grit and determination and should be proud of their efforts!

Huron is one of Westerns small affiliated colleges.  It sits right on the Western campus, you can take Western courses, use all Westerns facilities and obtain a Western degree but with a population of just over 1000 students, you will also benefit from everything a small institution has to offer.

  • Today we are hosting a representative from the University of Alberta in the conference room at 10:45.  UofA is a big research institution in Edmonton Alberta with lots of program choices similar to UBC but is much more assessable in regards to the marks required.
  • A  Brock University representative will be presenting at lunch in C207.  Brock is a medium sized, very assessable institution located on the very beautiful Niagara peninsula just an hour and a half from Toronto.
  • At lunch Ms. Ferrajohn will be meeting with graduation transition students in W205.

This begs a question: how do Canadian universities use all this information to determine who gets in?  Tonight’s presentation delivered by UBC’s Deputy Registrar will provide an overview of the rationales and decision-making process Canadian universities often use to make admission decisions. The presentation starts at 7:00PM.

Language Challenge

Your completed Language Challenge application form is due into your counsellor by Monday, November 5th. Forms must be completed on line and printed off before submitting them to your counsellor for verification and submission. BC Post-Secondary evening – Monday, Nov 5 6:30-8:30 in Player’s Hall This event will feature 15 different institutions from across BC including BCIT, SFU, University of Victoria, Capilano University, Langara College, Douglas College, Thompson Rivers University, etc.  This is not a Fair but a chance to choose 2 of the schools that most interest you and attend a 35 minute presentation by a representative of that school.  Please note these schools will not be coming back for lunch visits.  This is your only chance this year to meet with these reps.

  • Wednesday night students and their parents are invited to attend a UBC information session at 7:00PM in Player’s Hall.  UBC has changed their admission requirements substantially so students in grade 11 and 12 should be attending this event if they are thinking about applying to UBC.
