PJ Outdoor Learning & Community Park

Families, teachers and supporters of the PJ Outdoor Learning & Community Park joined together in four hour shifts September 23-25 to help build the Pauline Johnson Community Playground. A big thanks to all the volunteers, and especially to parent organizers Kyra Williams Smiljanic and Victoria Mendes, whose vision, dedication, and perseverance to this major project, were instrumental. The park includes an Outdoor Classroom, Performance Amphitheatre, First Nations Healing Circle, Bird Sanctuary, a seasonal Wetland, Community-Garden, a Beach & Driftwood play-zone, and soon-to-come is a climbing Log Jam. The Park was built on  three pillars of social objectives:  education, environmental stewardship, and community inter-connection. Its re-design was an exercise in re-imagining how to use an outdoor space to benefit the whole community.
