Stephanie takes a hands on approach to recruitment, job evaluation and labour relations.  Since being with WVS from 2014 she has an outstanding recruitment and selection process in order to find and retain our exceptional employees. 

Stephanie has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia with a focus in Labour Relations. Stephanie aims to provide first class customer service and support to help build and foster a team of employees that are striving for excellence.

Laura is responsible for the recruitment and onboarding of casual and permanent support staff. She also works to further retention efforts specific to support staff. Laura is passionate about diversity, equity and inclusivity related practices both inside and outside of work and is looking forward to continual opportunities to support this work. She is a recent UBC graduate.

Senior HR Advisor

Samarra leads WVS health and safety programs and gives guidance to schools and sites on health and safety protocols, supports schools in health and safety training and ensures WorkSafeBC compliance. She also assists in recruitment, coordination of return to work plans, employee wellness and training initiatives for employees. Samarra has Bachelor of Business Administration with Specialization in Human Resources Management from Capilano University.

Lynette joined the HR team with more than 20 years of office administration and customer service experience. Drawing from her years as an 9-1-1 operator and at the BC Children’s Hospital, Lynette runs the dispatch system for our TTOC, EA’s and custodians ensuring appropriate and timely replacements are found for all absences within the school district.

Chris is a passionate educator having served in the past as both an elementary and secondary school principal. He is an avid writer, blogger and lifelong learner.  Chris has been honoured with many awards such as Business in Vancouver’s top Forty Under 40, Canada’s Top Education Blogger as well as Canada’s Educational Technology K-12 Leader of the Year.

Secretary Treasurer/CFO

As chief financial officer Julia oversees all business, finance and facilities operations for West Vancouver Schools.  Together with the Superintendent, she works with the Board of Trustees to implement their strategic plan and vision, and advises them on a wide range of business and policy matters. She is committed to serving the students and staff of our district, and believes that public education is critical to the development of human potential to do good on this planet.

Deputy Superintendent

Sean has been with West Vancouver Schools since 2014.  He leads our teams in school operations, student support services, information technology services, and digital literacy.  Sean has been an educator since 1995 beginning his career in Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows.  He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and a Master of Arts Degree in Education. He believes that the work we do in public school systems today is fundamental to ensuring an inspired, prosperous, and healthy future.

Liz Hill

Director of Instruction

Liz has been with West Vancouver Schools since 1998. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Education and her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of British Columbia. Liz began her teaching career at Hollyburn Elementary and spent many years as an elementary school Principal at Westcot and Irwin Park Elementary. Liz’s District-wide portfolio includes Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, Professional Development, Innovation, and Indigenous Education. Liz is passionate about supporting dynamic learning opportunities and environments where individuals are collaborative, engaged, care about their learning and strive for student success.

Ian Kennedy

Ian Kennedy

Director of Instruction

Ian has spent the last 14 years in various leadership roles first with us as vice-principal at West Vancouver and Rockridge Secondary, then as Director of Instruction and Head of Wentworth Campus at Collingwood School and most recently as Principal at Carson Graham Secondary in North Vancouver. With more than 25 years of experience in education, as both a teacher and administrator, Ian obtained his undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Victoria and his Master’s Degree in Education from Simon Fraser University.

Ian has a rich background in public and independent schools and is passionate about the evolution of education, the development of teachers, and the transformation of our public education system. He has a proven track record of guiding innovation and his leadership work around school improvement has been recognized locally and nationally.

Ian is a resident of the North Shore, active in the community, and a busy father of two teenagers.  Ian is a long time school and community coach, and in his spare time an avid bike rider.

Sandra-Lynn Shortall

Sandra-Lynn Shortall

Director of Instruction

Sandra-Lynn’s educational background includes Bachelor Degrees in Education and Special Education, a Masters of Education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership & Policy. Sandra-Lynn began her career teaching in Special Education and has been a school and district administrator in West Vancouver for 16 years. Since 2010 she has been a District Principal in Early Learning and Student Support Services. Sandra-Lynn is highly regarded for her collaborative approach to issues, her creative thinking and passionate dedication to our students. In addition to this, she has gained local and international acclaim for her work with self-regulation and early learning.

Director of Instruction

Diane runs West Vancouver Schools’ Premier Academies in addition to our Physical Literacy and Physical Education programs. With over 30 years of experience in education, as both a teacher and administrator, Diane obtained her Bachelor of Education, Diploma in Counselling Psychology, and Master’s in Educational Administration, all from the University of British Columbia. Diane’s entire career has been about giving students an opportunity to better themselves and realize their hopes and aspirations. She firmly believes that enthusiastic and thoughtful guidance is the best way to assist our youth on the path that they choose.
