Support for Essential Service Workers

March 29, 2020 - 4 minutes read

Are you an Essential Service Worker (ESW) with a child currently attending West Vancouver Schools?

Will you will be needing school aged (5-12 years) child care during the COVID-19 Pandemic?

Essential Service Workers (ESWs) are those individuals who are providing  daily services essential to preserving life, health, public safety and basic societal functioning.  Emergency Management BC (EMBC) released a provincial definition of essential services in the context of the Province’s response to COVID-19 – it was developed in consultation with other government ministries and the Provincial Health Officer (PHO).

The Ministry of Education is asking school districts  to follow the definition above to prioritize services and supports to children of ESWs as follows:

Tier 1:  Health and Health Services, Social Services, Law Enforcement, First Responders and Emergency responders

Tier 2:  Any other occupation on the provincial list of essential services.
