The IB Primary Years Programme in West Vancouver Schools
West Bay Elementary, Cypress Park Primary and École Cedardale Elementary schools are designated “schools of choice” within West Vancouver Schools offering the IB PYP.
Since 2005, all students from Kindergarten to Grade 7 attending West Bay Elementary have taken part in the IB PYP. In addition, West Bay Preschool (“Early Inquirers”) offers inquiry-based activities for three- and four-year-olds.
Developed by the IB Organization specifically for this pre-K to 12 age group, the IB PYP integrates the BC curriculum into a framework of inquiry with a global perspective.
This inclusive, enriched program ensures students are challenged to think and question critically. Research skills and sophistication in writing and presenting are significant outcomes of the program.
West Bay, Cypress Park and École Cedardale’s IB PYP also offers second language instruction beginning in Kindergarten.
The IB PYP Goal
The IB PYP’s goal is to deliver citizens who are well-balanced, principled inquirers with an understanding of their responsibilities to our society and a commitment to academic excellence.
What Makes the IB PYP Unique?
Through the IB PYP, students acquire and learn to apply transdisciplinary skills to perform well across a spectrum of challenges – from academics to arts and culture, from athletics to citizenship.
The results, documented throughout the world, are:
- motivated, happy learners
- students who have learned how to learn
- learners who can apply critical analysis skills
- children who take risks to seek deeper understanding of concepts with a global significance, and
- students who are involved in responsible action and social service.
