Responsible recycling awards

Two Grade 12 students from Rockridge Secondary, and a Grade 6 student from École PJ won awards in the District of West Vancouver’s responsible recycling video contest. Leanne Pruner’s Grade 5 class at Ridgeview Elementary also won a free pizza party lunch for having the most video submissions.

Robotics Academy students place 5th at the World Championships

Three robots from West Vancouver’s Mechatronics/Robotics academy (Ten Ton Robotics) competed at the 2017 VEX Robotics World High School Championships in Louisville, Kentucky April 19-22. This is the world’s largest robotics completion with teams representing 44 countries from around the world.

Westcot Elementary worm experiment returns from space

A team from Westcot Elementary was selected from thousands of entries to send their experiment “Red Worm Composting in Space” to the International Space Station. Students watched the launch of the SpaceX rocket carrying their test tube experiment online and had a chance to analyze the results at school after the worms returned to earth.

Major community youth art project gets green light for grant

Students in West Vancouver and the Gitga’at Nation in Northern BC will be working together on a large art mural and exhibition in 2017 to deepen understanding of their unique cultures and lands, courtesy of a grant for nearly $50,000 from the Government of Canada and a further $10,000 from the West Vancouver Community Foundation.
