As a part of the application process, applicants must write a one-page professional letter of application (similar to a letter of motivation or letter of application to university) that addresses the following:

1. Why you are applying for the YELL program
2. Tell us about yourself (any volunteer, work experience and/or achievements)
3. Why you think you should be chosen for this program
4. Please include the name and email of a teacher reference in your letter.

Important Information for Applicants

Successful applicants are motivated, mature, and collaborate well with others.

Potential applicants must be able to commit to attending class after school until December. In January, students must be willing to meet collaboratively in small groups.

The goal is to have equal student representation in the program from all three of the district’s secondary schools: Rockridge, Ecole Sentinel and West Vancouver Secondary. Also, those students going into Grades 11 & 12 are given priority.

The staff committee reviews all applications. Successful applicants will be notified via email.
