Air Quality

September 12, 2022 - 1 minute read

This weekend Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement for the entire Lower Mainland, including the North Shore, due to “high concentrations of fine particulate matter.”

The concentrations in the air are attributed to ongoing wildfires in the province and the United States, including wildfires burning southeast of Chilliwack and Hope.

Our school district is closely monitoring the situation to ensure that our schools continue to be safe environments for our staff and students.

Our schools will limit smoke exposure for staff and students by:

  • Allowing students who are sensitive to the smoke to remain indoors during lunch/breaks;
  • Closing exterior doors and windows and utilizing filtered ventilation systems;
  • Rescheduling outdoor activities as necessary, particularly strenuous activities like PE;
  • Closely monitor students with asthma or other breathing conditions.
