Superintendent of Schools/CEO

Chris is a passionate educator having served in the past as both an elementary and secondary school principal. He is an avid writer, blogger and lifelong learner.  Chris has been honoured with many awards such as Business in Vancouver’s top Forty Under 40, Canada’s Top Education Blogger as well as Canada’s Educational Technology K-12 Leader of the Year.

Julia Leiterman

Secretary Treasurer/CFO

As chief financial officer Julia oversees all business, finance and facilities operations for West Vancouver Schools.  Together with the Superintendent, she works with the Board of Trustees to implement their strategic plan and vision, and advises them on a wide range of business and policy matters. She is committed to serving the students and staff of our district, and believes that public education is critical to the development of human potential to do good on this planet.

Liz Hill

Liz Hill

Assistant Superintendent

Liz has been with West Vancouver Schools since 1998. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Education and her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of British Columbia. Liz began her teaching career at Hollyburn Elementary and spent many years as an elementary school Principal at Westcot and Irwin Park Elementary. Before becoming Assistant Superintendent in August 2023, Liz was Director of Instruction focusing on Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment and Professional Development. Liz leads our teams in school operations, technology initiatives and the district Framework for Enhancing Student Learning.

Stephanie Mascoe

Executive Director, Human Resources

Stephanie takes a hands on approach to recruitment, job evaluation and labour relations.  Since being with WVS from 2014 she has an outstanding recruitment and selection process in order to find and retain our exceptional employees. 

Stephanie has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia with a focus in Labour Relations. Stephanie aims to provide first class customer service and support to help build and foster a team of employees that are striving for excellence.   

Ian Kennedy

Ian Kennedy

Director of Instruction

Prior to becoming a Director of Instruction in West Vancouver Schools, Ian served as a Vice-Principal at West Vancouver and Rockridge Secondary, a Director of Instruction and Head of Wentworth Campus at Collingwood School and as the Principal at Carson Graham Secondary in North Vancouver. Ian has three decades of experience in education, as a teacher and administrator.  He obtained his undergraduate degree in Education from the University of Victoria and his Master’s Degree in Education from Simon Fraser University.

Ian has a rich background in public and independent schools and is passionate about the evolution of education, the development of teachers, and the transformation of our public education system. He has a proven track record of guiding innovation and his leadership work around school improvement has been recognized locally and nationally. Ian is a former National Team athlete and has always been involved in coaching and supporting school athletics. He is a resident of the North Shore and is an active in the community member.

Sandra-Lynn Shortall

Sandra-Lynn Shortall

Director of Instruction

Sandra-Lynn’s educational background includes Bachelor Degrees in Education and Special Education, a Masters of Education and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership & Policy. Sandra-Lynn began her career teaching in Special Education and has been a school and district administrator in West Vancouver for 16 years. Since 2010 she has been a District Principal in Early Learning and Student Support Services. Sandra-Lynn is highly regarded for her collaborative approach to issues, her creative thinking and passionate dedication to our students. In addition to this, she has gained local and international acclaim for her work with self-regulation and early learning.
