Background

Schools play an important role in assisting students to develop the leadership skills that they will need as they take responsibility for their future and for the future of their communities. Students who possess strong leadership skills are able to contribute significantly to the culture of their school and to society.

The District is committed to designing structures and systems to support student leadership initiatives that enhance student social responsibility and transform the way students see themselves as learners and leaders.

Procedures

1. The District will support emerging student leadership issues including environment and sustainability and diversity.
2. The District will provide opportunities for students to publicize the leadership work that is taking place in their schools through a variety of publications.
3. The District will offer support for teachers focused on developing and improving school- based student leadership programs.
