The federal government and our provincial health authority have said everyone should avoid international travel.
On Friday, March 13, the BC government issued the following statement:
“We are recommending against all non-essential travel outside of Canada, including to the United States. Effective today, anyone who chooses to travel outside of Canada will be asked to stay away from work or school for 14 days upon their return.
“We are also reinforcing that if you have symptoms and may have been exposed to COVID-19, you must call your local primary care provider, or 811, to arrange for safe testing.”
If you continue your plans to travel outside of Canada, you:
- must arrange for a place to live for 14 days when you return to Canada. We need to make sure you have not contracted COVID-19. We cannot expect your host family to accommodate you because this means they too will need to quarantine.
- cannot attend school in-person during your self-quarantine.
It is very difficult to find another place to live as you are a minor student (under 19 years old). You will also be missing classes.
You should cancel your trip and stay within BC.
