If a high school student wishes to travel outside the metropolitan Vancouver area for a day trip or overnight trip while attending West Vancouver Schools International Programs, the student must:

    1. make sure they get permission from our office by having a parent complete the online Travel Application one week prior to travel, and if applicable,

    2. be supervised by an adult 25 years or older on any overnight trips.

If needed, the student can discuss their trip plan with the Homestay Coordinator for advice on safe travel plan that will be approved.

  • Supervisor’s Responsibility (if the supervisor listed is anyone other than the natural parent or custodian)
    1. General Responsibility: The supervisor is expected to provide reasonable care and assistance in situations where the student may need help, like a homestay would. This means that while they’re not legally responsible for a student, they’re expected to assist if something goes wrong, especially since the student’s parents or custodian aren’t there.
    2. Examples of Care: If the student required medical help or faced an emergency, the supervisor would help get the student to a hospital or provide needed assistance. They would also contact the student’s parents or custodian if the student couldn’t do so themselves.
    3. Limitations on Legal Authority: The supervisor does not have legal authority over a student. They cannot make legal decisions on a student’s behalf or sign legal documents, as only the student’s parents, or custodian can do that.

In summary, the supervisor's role is to ensure the student is safe and supported but within limits, as they aren’t legally the natural parent or custodian.
