Why we are implementing this fee
Hosting a student is a big commitment for each family. Planning meals requires a lot of shopping, preparation, and expense. Students with special diets or requirements are difficult to accommodate and depend heavily on specialized family availability.
Adding an exceptional dietary request fee is necessary to secure a specialized family and properly compensate them for the additional cost and effort.
How does it work
During application, students must identify their exceptional dietary requests using the online application. The more detail the student provides, the more successful the future homestay is likely to be.
Note that by selecting exceptional dietary requests may exclude a homestay family which meets other placement preferences.
Students or host families may also identify an exceptional dietary situation after the student arrives at the home. Please note that the assigned host families may not be able to accommodate this change and it could result in an unsatisfactory fit. It is vital to know dietary requests prior to homestay placement.
What to expect
Exceptional dietary requests will require the student and homestay to discuss the specifics of the student’s preferences and requirements. This can be an ongoing discussion. Mealtimes are an important part of the student’s experience, and they should make all efforts to be home for meals. The standard Canadian diet consists of three meals plus reasonable snacks.
