Important Information

You will receive an email with further instructions from Ecole Pauline Johnson admissions within 24 – 48 hours of submission of your online application.

Ecole Pauline Johnson will be accepting and processing supporting documentation on:

Student Admissions

École Pauline Johnson is pleased to accept applications for children entering Kindergarten who reside both within and outside of the West Vancouver School District.

Early French Immersion is offered at both École Cedardale and École Pauline Johnson.

Enrollment in Early French Immersion generally occurs at the Kindergarten level, although students may enter the program at the Grade 1 level until December of the school year, space permitting.

Late French Immersion begins at Grade 6 and is offered at École Pauline Johnson Elementary only. Please read the West Vancouver Schools Late French Immersion admission guidelines for more information.

When to Apply

Although priority is given based on catchment location to applicants following the timeline listed below, we appreciate that circumstances sometimes require late registration and encourage you to contact our office at 604-981-1225 to inquire about our late registration policy and to join our wait list.

NB. Waitlists are not carried over from year to year.

Admission for the 2016-2017 school year is ongoing, with some availability at certain grade levels. Contact the school office directly for more information.

Admission for the 2017 – 2018 school year begins in the fall, according to the following timelines:

OCT 17, 2016 – NOVEMBER 30, 2016

All applicants entering Kindergarten (including in-catchment, out-of-catchment and out-of-district)

  • OCT 17, 2016 – MARCH 1, 2017

All in-district applicants entering Grades 1 – 7 who have been previously enrolled in a French Immersion program

Any in-district students entering Grade 6 Late French Immersion in September. (Must successfully complete Grade 5 in June 2017.) No previous experience in French is required.

  • JANUARY 16 – FEBRUARY 1, 2017

All out-of-district applicants entering Grades 1 to 7 who have been previously enrolled in a French Immersion program

Any out-of-district students entering Grade 6 Late French Immersion in September. (Must successfully complete Grade 5 in June 2017.) No previous experience in French is required.

Current students do not need to re-apply

Due to the strong demand for this program of choice, West Vancouver School District will conduct a lottery in early December 2016 to identify those children who will be registered for Early French Immersion Kindergarten.

The registration will follow Ministry guidelines and Board policy. Any applications missing required documentation as of the close of the lottery will not be included in the lottery.

Students may be included in both the lottery for EFI IB PYP at École Cedardale and the lottery for regular EFI at Pauline Johnson, provided both schools are selected as prioritized school choices on the online application form.

Current students do not need to re-apply.

Important: Applications are not considered complete until you have submitted all supporting documentation to the school office. Students with incomplete applications will not receive offers nor be placed on wait lists.

Supporting Documentation

Please wait for the WV School’s office to contact you before bringing in original documentation.

After submitting an application online, we request that you bring the following original documentation to the Ecole Pauline Johnson office so a copy can be made to complete your registration package.

NB. Documents must be presented in person by a parent or legal guardian, not another family member, caregiver or friend.

Proof of citizenship (required for both student and parents)

  • Child’s original birth certificate or passport
  • Canadian immigration or citizenship documents for child
  • Canadian immigration or citizenship documents for at least one birth parent or legal guardian (not custodian)
  • Please bring passports, if available

Proof of residency (a minimum of two pieces required; additional pieces may be necessary)

  • A completed Agreement of Purchase; or
  • A completed Residential Tenancy Agreement (NB.If utilities are included in the tenancy agreement, additional documentation will be required); and
  • A property tax notice to the family at the address cited; or
  • A hydro/utility bill to the family at the address cited; and, if necessary,
  • Government identification showing address cited (BC driver’s licence, BC Identification, or BC Services Card only) as supplementary, not primary proof of residence

Child Guardianship / Custody agreements

  • An original and complete Order from the BC Supreme Court or BC Provincial Court must be presented to the school to confirm any legal guardianship / parental responsibilities / parenting time pertaining to the child.

Child’s previous report cards (if applicable)

  • Original report card from previous school year

Child’s immunization records since birth, if available

  • Any other important health documents

Any other relevant documentation

  • Information regarding guardianship, court orders, etc.
