Welcome Back Message From Principal

Welcome Back Message from the Principal

Welcome to all of our new families and welcome back to all returning PJ families.  We have had a wonderful week one!  Students were engaged in many learning opportunities that focused on:

·        Self-Regulation/Zones of Regulation

·        Team building and collaborative spirit

·        Healthy living and eating

·        Physical activity for growth and development

·        Code of Conduct review for expected behaviors in school and on the playground; Classroom Essential Agreements

We appreciated your patience this week as we worked tirelessly to ensure we observed all students in many settings (new and returning) to ensure that our placement of each of your children is done with care and thoughtful consideration.  Your child’s academic, social, and emotional needs are paramount to us and the time we take to craft our class configurations will determine the positive year ahead.

REMINDER:  On Monday, we will ask that students return to their assigned line-up they were in this week at the 8:45am bell.

I have included some important items and dates for you to note below. Please read through carefully and be sure to ask at the office if you have any questions.

Have a lovely September weekend!  We are so happy to be back!

Message From PAC

FROM YOUR PAC

Welcome Back!

Dear Families,

A warm welcome back to school after the holidays! It was wonderful to see everyone who was able to make it to our Welcome Back Coffee on Tuesday. Returning families welcoming new families is what makes the École Pauline Johnson community spirit so special.

Being a parent of an École Pauline Johnson student automatically means you are a PAC Member and your opinion is very important to us as a school community. PAC Meetings are the best way to get to know what is happening in and around the school, so please join us on Wednesday 12 September at 7:00pm for our Annual General Meeting. The PAC meetings include school and classroom updates from our Principal, Madame Zielinski, updates on school programs and details about our fundraising activities.

If you are interested in learning more about the PAC please contact us directly via email:

Lisa Black, Co-Chair  black_lisa@hotmail.com

Chelsea Duhs, Co-Chair cmduhs@gmail.com

Many thanks for your support. We look forward to meeting you in person as the school year unfolds.

Warmly,

Lisa & Chelsea and the École Pauline Johnson PAC Executive

Gelato Day

This Friday is Gelato day! For $2 you can celebrate the beginning of the school year with a treat from TCBY.

PAC AGM (Annual General Meeting)

The first PAC meeting of the school year is next Wednesday, September 12 at 7:00pm in the Learning Commons (library). On the agenda this month are amendments to our current by-laws and our budget proposal for the year. This year our goal is to raise $55,000 to support many enriching programs at our school. There are a few exciting changes! We would also like to hear from parents about special speakers they would like to hear over the year. Everyone welcome! Visit our Facebook Page for more info.

BEING ON TIME FOR SCHOOL (GR K-7)

Being on time for school (Gr K-7)

This is a reminder to families that being on time for school is very important.  The welcoming bell sounds at 8:45am and the bell to commence classes at 8:50am.  Please ensure your child is on the playground by 8:35am each day.  Research shows that being on time for school has these benefits for your child:

- A calmer start to the day, meaning your child will be more likely to be self-regulated and ready for learning;

- Less anxiety in children;

- Stronger bonds and relationships with peers and the teacher;

-Positive habits for ‘workplace’ and life’s realities that will develop into strong life skills later on.

Simple tips for getting your child to school on time:

- Get lunches and backpacks ready the night before;

- Have one place in the house where school items are kept so they can be located easily;

-Rise a few minutes earlier to avoid the rushed feeling;

- Change bedtime routines and get children to sleep earlier if your family is undergoing changes or disruptions during the day.

I will be watching closely over the next few weeks to ensure our students are starting their days on time and are ready, calm and alert for learning.  If I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at tzielinski@wvschools.ca.

IMPORTANT: REQUIRED PARENTAL CONSENT (GR K-7)

IMPORTANT: Required Parental Consent (Gr K-7)

Every year, parents are required to complete a new online Policies and Procedures Form for each of their children attending West Vancouver Schools.

Failure to complete this form may result in your child being unable to participate fully in classroom and school activities.

Please note: the form this year includes a separate tab for Google Apps for Education (GAFE). Permissions for this expire on June 30 every year.

The forms can be accessed of the school website here. Please note, you need to set up an account using your email.
