Being on time for school (Gr K-7)

This is a reminder to families that being on time for school is very important.  The welcoming bell sounds at 8:45am and the bell to commence classes at 8:50am.  Please ensure your child is on the playground by 8:35am each day.  Research shows that being on time for school has these benefits for your child:

– A calmer start to the day, meaning your child will be more likely to be self-regulated and ready for learning;

– Less anxiety in children;

– Stronger bonds and relationships with peers and the teacher;

-Positive habits for ‘workplace’ and life’s realities that will develop into strong life skills later on.

Simple tips for getting your child to school on time:

– Get lunches and backpacks ready the night before;

– Have one place in the house where school items are kept so they can be located easily;

-Rise a few minutes earlier to avoid the rushed feeling;

– Change bedtime routines and get children to sleep earlier if your family is undergoing changes or disruptions during the day.

I will be watching closely over the next few weeks to ensure our students are starting their days on time and are ready, calm and alert for learning.  If I can help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at tzielinski@wvschools.ca.
