A Kindergarten Interview with Viggo
I recently sat down with Viggo, one of our kindergarten students, to hear a little bit about what he thinks of school so far.
When asked what his favourite part of school is, Viggo quickly answered, “Learning!” He especially likes math and was very proud to tell me, “One plus five equals six.”
Viggo also shared that some of his favourite parts of kindergarten are playing, morning time, and reading books. When asked what he likes about his teacher, Miss Anderson, his answer was simple: “She’s really nice.”
It sounds like Viggo is pretty excited about school. He told me that he likes to get up really early in the morning, although sometimes he still ends up in his mom’s room in the middle of the night after a bad dream. As he explained, sometimes you just need a good snuggle.
I also asked Viggo what advice he would give to a child who is starting kindergarten. His advice was short and sweet: “Read books.”
Viggo has an extra-special connection to Cypress Park because his Grade 3 brother, Henrik, goes to school here too. Their classrooms are right across the hall from each other, so they get to see each other during the day. Viggo had a few funny stories to share about spotting his brother in the hallway, including one involving getting a drink of water. “I was getting a drink of water and didn’t even think that Henrik would be there, but he was! And he waved a lot at me.”
It was fun hearing about kindergarten from Viggo’s perspective. His answers were a great reminder of all the little things that make kindergarten special; learning something new, playing with friends, reading books, feeling cared for, and having a few laughs along the way.
Thanks for the interview, Viggo!
