Welcome Back!
August 27, 2018 - 2 minutes readHard to believe it’s back to school time already! I hope you all had a fabulous summer and are excited about the 2018-2019 school year.
We are thrilled to welcome you back and wish to extend a special welcome to the new students and families who are joining our Chartwell community. It is bound to be a year full of rich learning, innovative programs and fun events. The staff has been preparing for the school start up and are looking forward to meeting their new students.
Our new ramp and stairway were completed during the summer and our grounds look fantastic! The school building is sparkling clean, thanks to the hard work of our custodians Mr. Jacob and Mr. Gallardo. Nice to start the school year with a building in tip top shape!
As in previous years, we spend the first week of school in grade level groups where students have the opportunity to review the Code of Conduct and our Rights Respecting School philosophy. We will have special activities and assemblies and students get to connect with new and old friends.
Last June we presented the results of our 3-year cycle of inquiry for our Framework for Enhancing Learning (FESL). Our students made impressive improvements in the areas of Reading and Inquiry. We are now in the process of determining our new goal. Teachers are particularly interested on following up with a Communication goal since the connection between reading and writing is so important. You will hear a lot more about our new FESL goal in the coming weeks.
As you well know, communication between home and school is crucial. We endeavour to update our website regularly, to include all important information in our weekly e-bulletin, the Chartwell this Week (CTW) and to post highlights on our Twitter accounts @chantaltrudeau and @alyshakarsan. Please review the school communications regularly to ensure that you are informed about school events.
I hope that many parents attend our Welcome Tea hosted by CPAC and myself. We have a lot to share with you about our school and new year’s opportunities.
