“ My family came to Canada three years ago. There [I was], a new Canadian resident, hardly speaking any English, didn’t know where to send my daughter when there were only three days left before the new school year. When we walked into Chartwell, everything was so unexpectedly friendly. Can you imagine how comforting was that to a mother who moved thousands of miles to this new land? Maybe that is something that our school staff do every day, but to me it means so much. Since that first day, Isabella and I joined this big family here. Every day in school is a happy day to her.
“You may notice that I mentioned I spoke no English three years ago, and you may also notice that I am talking to you in English today. It wasn’t easy for me, though I determined to get to know our community and learn with my daughter about everything. [The teachers] encouraged me a lot, they were so kind and professional and we chatted like friends. Through this I realized, language is not the only tool for communication, their warm smile made me believe I was doing a great job. By having that confidence, I came to school more often and made many friends here. I get help here from other people and I am more willingly to offer my help if I can. I always share with my friends in English class about our lives in Chartwell, they all envy me for having this open, positive, warm community with great value. Yes, I am so lucky!
“So please allow me to say, Thank you!”
