2022 Cheque Writing Campaign

April 18, 2022 - 4 minutes read

We are excited to announce the start of our 2022 CHEQUE WRITING CAMPAIGN to fund an important capital project that is an amenity to our community and tangible technology upgrades for our students. Specifically these funds will be used for new playground swings, outdoor spaces, and new laptops, iPads, and Apple pens.

We have 3 fundraising targets:

  1. Our Phase 1 fundraising target of $25,000 is for 6 new playground swings and Phase 2 is an accessible swing and turf for $25,000. We are well on our way already with $15,000 in money from grants, principal funds, and parent donors to date.

  2. Our fundraising target for technology upgrades is $10,000 that has been seeded with $2,000 from the CPAC budget. The goal is 10 iPads, 10 Chromebooks, and 5 Apple Pencils.

  3. Our fundraising target for our improved outdoor space is $20,000. The garden and outdoor classroom goals are 9 mature trees, 1400 sq/ft of plants and shrubs, and natural seating with logs.

Why a Cheque Writing Campaign??

The Chartwell Parent Advisory Council (CPAC) has a long history of raising funds for capital purchases and site enhancements. Typically we have launched a campaign every 2 years but the pandemic added an extra 2 since our last campaign launch. Most recently we funded through your donations the replacement of the main playground with a dynamic Smartplay Tree Tops Structure and accessible We-Go-Round. With the help of a $125,000 grant given to the school district to make the playground accessible, the CPAC contributed an additional $60,000 to complete the project. In March 2018, we completed the renovation of the library into a 21st century Learning Commons space. The overall project budget was $100,000 for which the CPAC contributed $50,000. Prior to that, we raised $25,000 to purchase 30 Chromebooks, 30 iPads, and digital projectors for every classroom.

We are using the cheque writing model because we have found it to be the most efficient way to raise significant funds without putting a heavy burden on our volunteer parent base. It is not mandatory for parents or caregivers to donate money. We are equally thankful to those parents & caregivers who give their time and effort to support the students and school throughout the year by volunteering for Hot Lunch or Class Parent roles, to name a few. If you have the means however, we believe in the Pay-It-Forward model of donating towards capital campaigns and student enhancement programs as a way of ensuring Chartwell is one of the best learning environments in public education in West Vancouver.

We appreciate any donation amount you can. For those who have asked what they should give, we suggest $150 per family to ensure we are well on our way to reaching our goals. Tax receipts are issued electronically for any donation over $25. Donations are best made through School Cash Online.

If you would like to donate by cheque, e-transfer, or cash, please contact our Treasurer at cpac.act@telus.net to make arrangements.

Follow along as we update our fundraising totals on our social media channels and through Chartwell This Week. We are so grateful for your support!

Your CPAC, hard at work.
