February 28 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Persian New Year, Nowruz, will be celebrated on the 20th of March this year.  Thanks to the team of parent volunteers, students at WB will be participating in a craft activity decorating terracotta pots and planting vibrant wildflower seeds in celebration of the arrival of Spring.  They will also be viewing a video of traditional cookie making.  The haftseen table will be set-up in the main foyer, where “haft” means seven in Persian and considered a lucky number, and “seen” is the word for the Persian letter “S”.  The table (or spread) is set with the following seven main “S” items as well as many others symbolic items:

  • Sabzeh (sprouts): for rebirth and renewal of nature
  • Samanu (sweet wheat germ pudding): for fertility, affluence, prosperity, and sweetness of life
  • Seeb (apple): for health and beauty
  • Seer (garlic): for health and medicine
  • Senjed (sweet, dried fruit of lotus tree): for love, affection and happiness
  • Serkeh (vinegar): for old age and patience
  • Somaq (sumac): for sunrise, spice of life and joy
