Code of Conduct
The purpose of Ecole Cedardale’s School Code of Conduct and West Vancouver Schools District’s Code of Conduct is to establish and maintain a safe and caring school environment. In addition, the Code of Conduct serves to promote an inclusive environment, where learners respect oneself and others and is essential to the development of responsible citizens. Appropriate conduct is a shared responsibility among learners, their parents, and the school system. The code of conduct outlines expectations for student behaviour and protects our learners’ rights to learn and enjoy school without interference. Please note that special considerations may apply to neurodivergent learners if they are unable to comply with this Code of Conduct.
École Cedardale Code of Conduct
The purpose of Ecole Cedardale’s School Code of Conduct and West Vancouver

school environment. In addition, the Code of Conduct serves to promote an inclusive
environment, where learners, staff, parents, and caregivers respect oneself and
others and is essential to the development of responsible citizens. Appropriate
conduct is a shared responsibility among learners, their parents, and the school
system. The code of conduct outlines expectations for student behaviour and
protects our learners’ rights to learn and enjoy school without interference. Please
note that special considerations may apply to neurodivergent learners if they are
unable to comply with this Code of Conduct.
Ecole Cedardale Elementary School promotes the values expressed in the BC Human
Rights Code, respecting the rights of all individuals in accordance with the law and
prohibiting discrimination based on (but not limited to): appearance, Indigenous
identity, race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, political belief, religion, marital status,
family status, physical or mental disability, sex, real or perceived sexual orientation,
gender identity or expression, and age – in respect of discriminatory publication and
discrimination in accommodation, service and facility in the school environment.

Acceptable Behaviour
Ecole Cedardale is committed to providing a safe, caring and socially responsible
school environment. At Ecole Cedardale Elementary School we endeavour to:
● Be on time and ready to learn each day
● Observe district, school and classroom rules
● Respect public and personal property
● Respect the environment and public spaces
● Move safely in the school at all times (facing forward, on the right, quietly,
walking)
● Respect the personal space of others (hands, feet, body to self)
● Respect the educational process and the learning environment of others
● Maintain courteous relations with fellow learners, teachers, staff, community
members, and people in general
● Be honest and straightforward in our interactions
● Consider the perspectives of others
Unacceptable Behaviour
At Ecole Cedardale, the following is considered unacceptable behaviour.
Learners are expected to refrain from the following:
● Bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, intimidation
● Violence or threats of violence
● Acts of retribution against persons who have reported incidents
● Using offensive, disrespectful, or discriminatory language, tone, or gestures
● Making others feel unsafe/uncomfortable (physically, mentally, emotionally)
Weapons, replica weapons, or objects imitating weapons (including toys) are strictly
prohibited and are not to be brought to school.
Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior:
When determining consequences of unacceptable behaviour the following will be
taken into consideration:
● Age, maturity, development and special needs
● The school will take all reasonable steps to prevent retaliation by a person
against a student who has made a complaint of a breach of a code of conduct
● Whenever possible and appropriate, consequences shall be restorative in
nature rather than punitive
● Special considerations and advocacy may apply to students with special needs
and/or learning differences if these students are unable to comply with a code
of conduct due to having a disability of an intellectual, physical, sensory,
emotional, or behavioural nature
● Special consideration and advocacy may apply for students and families of
indigenous ancestry, with an approach that is mindful of historical context and
indigenous ways of knowing and perspectives
Personal Digital Devices
Personal Digital Devices* are to be appropriately used during the school day
including before school, after school and break times in accordance with the District
Admin Procedure 370 and the student expectations outlined within this School Code
of Conduct.
If a personal digital device is required for instructional purposes, or to support a
student’s medical health or accessibility and accommodation needs, teachers/staff
will provide clear guidelines and expectations around their use for these
purposes and ensure that use is adequately supervised. Considerations for
personal digital device use will also be made to ensure equity to support learning
outcomes for any student who may be disproportionately impacted by the lack of
access.
*Personal Digital Devices means any personal electronic device that can be
used to communicate or to access the internet, such as cell phones, phones,
laptops, tablets, smartwatches, and any other portable technology device.
Dress Code
To help create a positive learning environment for Cedardale learners, the following
standards for dress are expected: Hoods and sunglasses are for outside unless there
is a permissible reason for wearing such as (i.e., Spirit Days, health, etc.).
Learners should wear comfortable clothing which allows them to participate fully in
the range of school activities throughout the day including time spent outside.
Please dress for the weather!
Learners may attend school and school-related functions in dress of their choice
provided that their choices:
● Do not represent or promote alcohol or drugs
● Use respectful language
● Do not depict or promote violence, racism, sexism, or discrimination, and
● Conform with established health and safety requirement for the intended
activity
● Are not intimidating to others
Learners have the right to dress in a manner consistent with their gender identity or
gender expression. This includes dressing in a manner that is not consistent with the
societal expectations of gender.
Other:
Parking Lot protocol
● Students are expected to follow traffic and safety laws.
● Bikes, scooters, e-bikes and other forms of transportation should not be
operated in school parking lots.
Technology use
● Please refer to Ecole Cedardale’s annual Digital Device Agreement outlining
acceptable use of technology and consequences for unacceptable use.
West Coast Recess
● See “Dress Code” above. Students should come to school dressed for the
weather.
