Celebrating Term 2 Highlights!

I hope that you all enjoy Spring Break! We are so proud of all the learning that our students have demonstrated over the last term! It has been wonderful to hear the “sounds of music” all over the school, see Future Cities projects come to life, and robots roaming the Learning Commons as students learn to use new tools to develop their skills. What a treat to see the growth of our volleyball teams, coming in 3rd (boys) and 2nd (girls) at the district jamboree! So much effort and commitment to learning from students and staff.

We also danced, learned about our bodies and the importance of digital citizenship with special guest instructors. Students are practicing mindfulness and developing executive function skills, and of course we’re all focusing consistently on writing, our new school goal for our Framework for Enhancing Student Learning.
Inquiry learning is alive and well in all our classroom as well as the First Peoples Principle of Learning “Learning involves recognizing the consequences of one’s actions”. I have been very impressed with the work done in our 6/7s classes in collaboration with the Grade 12 Sentinel students developing their guided inquiry as a stepping stone to the Capstone Connect. I have seen fabulous ADST projects in all our classrooms, from computational thinking to coding. The art work on the bulletin boards showcases students and teachers’ creativity. The Leadership Club has been active and the family grouping activities have been fun and valuable. The Sentinel Choral Festival was a wonderful opportunity for our Choir to shine, and shine they did!

There is much to look forward to in Term 3! The Do1Give Day is coming up on April 17th. The Lighthouse Festival will follow closely from April 22nd to 26th.  Our Sound of Music show will be at the Kay Meek Theater on May 2nd. I cannot wait to see that!
