Admission to the IB Course Programme – Fall 2024

This programme allows students to take a partial IB programme, with up to three IB Diploma courses in grades 11 and 12. Demand is high, so please note that priority is given to full Diploma students in courses. Once the timetable is built and full IB Diploma students are placed, IB Course students will be placed in IB classes if there is room.

Application Process for Current West Vancouver Secondary School Students:

Students currently attending WVSS who are not taking Pre-Diploma Programme courses in Grade 10 and who wish to take up to three IB Diploma courses a la carte in grades 11 and 12 must write our critical thinking test in late January.

WVSS students do not have to complete an application form for admission to the IB Course Programme.

WVSS students in Grade 10 can apply for the IB Diploma Programme by writing the critical thinking test and selecting IB Diploma courses during course planning.

WVSS students currently taking our Pre-Diploma Programme do not have to write the critical thinking test again. These students must select IB Diploma courses during course planning.

The IB Coordinator will then screen and potentially interview all WVSS students applying for the IB Diploma Programme.   Students are assessed on their academic potential and motivation.  Strong grades (minimum 80%) are recommended; however, evaluation is holistic.

Application Process for Students from outside West Vancouver Secondary School:

Students new to WVSS in Grade 11 who wish to become an IB Course student and are interested in taking a partial IB Programme must submit a Course Programme Admission Application to ndehart@wvschools.ca by Jan. 31, 2024, or bring it to their testing session Jan. 25, 27 or Feb. 153h, 2024. Students do not need to register in advance for this test.

Upon acceptance to the programme, out of district applicants will need to first register online with West Vancouver Schools, then register at West Vancouver Secondary School. In-district students from other high schools must transfer to West Vancouver Secondary School and complete the WVSS registration.

For more information about registration, please contact our school registrar, Naomi Fraser at nfraser@wvschools.ca.  Students will need to provide a birth certificate or passport and proof of residence (a phone bill, rental agreement etc.)
