IB Course Programme Option

Some high school students who are interested in IB but do not want to undertake the academic challenge of a full IB Diploma Programme may opt to take a blend of BC Provincial courses and IB courses in grades 11 and 12.

These students can select IB subjects that best meet their personal learning needs. This allows students to take up to three single IB Diploma courses a la carte, based on availability.

Higher Level IB courses are recognized by universities for post-secondary credit and provide students with an excellent foundation for future university study.

Application Process for current West Vancouver Secondary School PDP students:

Students taking a subject at the Pre-Diploma level do not need to apply for the IB Course Programme. If they are interested in the Course Programme in grades 11 and 12, these Pre-Diploma Programme students may select up to three IB courses during course planning in the spring. Spaces in IB courses are limited, however, and priority is given to students taking the full IB Diploma.

Application process for regular WVSS students:

Grade 10 students currently taking BC Provincial courses are required to apply for the IB Course Programme for grades 11 and 12. They will need to take a critical thinking test in February, be interviewed by the IB Coordinator, and select IB courses during course planning in the spring.

Application Process for students from Other Schools:

Gr. 10 students from outside the school are required to apply for the IB Course Programme for grades 11 and 12.

Students from outside WVSS will need to take the critical thinking test, submit a Course Programme Admission Application by Jan. 31, 2024, and be interviewed.  Please see our Admissions Timeline page for the process.
