IB Course Programme Option

Some high school students who are interested in IB but do not want to undertake the academic challenge of a full IB Diploma Programme may opt to take a blend of BC Provincial courses and IB Diploma courses in grades 11 and 12.

These students can select IB subjects that best meet their personal learning needs. This allows students to take up to three single IB Diploma courses a la carte, based on availability.

Higher Level IB courses are recognized by universities for post-secondary credit and provide students with an excellent foundation for future university study.

Application Process for current West Vancouver Secondary School students:

  • Students interested in our IB Course Programme for grades 11 and 12 must complete our IB Course Programme Application form by Jan. 31, 2025
  • Are required to take the Critical Thinking and Written tests on Jan. 23rd, Jan. 25th or Feb. 27th, 2025.  (PDP students who have previously taken the Critical Thinking test do not need to take it again.)
  • May select up to three IB courses during course planning in the spring. Spaces in IB courses are limited, however, and priority is given to students taking the full IB Diploma.
  • May be interviewed by the IB Coordinator

Application Process for students from Other Schools:

  • Gr. 10 students from outside WVSS are required to apply for the IB Course Programme via our online IB Course Programme Application by Jan. 31, 2025
  • Students from outside schools will need to take the Critical Thinking Test and a Written Test on Jan. 23rd, Jan. 25th or Feb. 27th, 2025.
  • Outside students may be interviewed by the IB Coordinator
