The Pre-Diploma Programme (PDP) at West Vancouver Secondary School is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education that prepares Grade 10 students to enroll in the IB Diploma Programme in their last two years of high school.
The 5-course Pre-Diploma Programme lays a solid foundation for the IB Diploma Programme in grades 11 and 12. It is not required but is highly recommended to students wishing to go on to pursue their IB Diploma.
Able students are encouraged to enroll in the five PDP enriched areas in Grade 10. Students do have the option of taking the BC Provincial Foundations of Mathematics & Pre-Calculus 10 or Foundations of Mathematics & Pre-Calculus PDP.
WVSS Gr. 9 students wishing to take the PDP program must complete the Pre-Diploma Programme Admission Application, take our Critical Thinking Test in late January, and then select PDP courses in the spring of Grade 9 at the time of course selection.
Students from outside WVSS must apply for the Pre-Diploma programme by submitting the Pre-Diploma Programme Admission Application by Jan. 31, 2025, and taking our Critical Thinking Test in late January. For all of the details and dates, please see our PDP Admissions page.
Due to the high demand for these places, students who wish to try only one or two of these pre-IB classes are advised that they will be placed on a waiting list until the space is determined. Priority goes to students registering for the full PDP programme.
If a student is interested in IB but did not take the PDP programme in Grade 10, there is a second opportunity to apply in Grade 10 to pursue IB Diploma courses beginning in Grade 11.
Teacher recommendations, good marks and excellent work habits are required.
