Monday with Michelle: Communicating Student Learning

May 19, 2016 - 1 minute read

As many parents are already aware, the education curriculum for Kindergarten – Grade 8s learners in the Province of British Columbia recently underwent a redesign.

kids workingHighlights of BC’s Redesigned Curriculum include:

  • Personalized Learning
  • Ecology and the Environment
  • Historical Wrongs
  • Aboriginal Perspectives and Knowledge
  • Flexible Learning Environments

As part of this plan, Cedardale teachers have been working with teacher across the West Vancouver School District to create report cards that better reflect individual student learning. To this end, the Kindergarten, Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 4 reports cards have been revamped this year to more clearly articulate Curricular and Core Competencies. The Kindergarten “Communicating Student Learning” is in its first full implementation year. Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 4 “Communicating Student Learning” documents are in a pilot phase at several West Vancouver schools including Cedardale.

We are very proud of this innovative and thoughtful work and look forward to your feedback around these new documents.

Prior to report cards being sent home, I would like to invite all interested parents to a “Mondays with Michelle” session November 30th at 6:00pm in the Cedardale library. Although it is most applicable to parents with children in Grades 1, 2 and 4, all are welcome to attend.

If you could please RSVP to mlabounty@wvschools.ca so that we may ensure that we have adequate seating.
