Volunteer Opportunities
Any amount of time goes a long way to helping the GPAC fundraise and create great opportunities for our school. Whether you can only do a few days a year, or you can help out more, please put your name below and we will contact you throughout the year to see if you are available.
Please know that hot lunch is our biggest fundraiser and always needs volunteers, check back frequently to see if you can help out with a hot lunch shift.
Hot lunch
This committee determines the hot lunch providers, the days of the week the service will be offered, and runs a group of parent volunteers who share hot lunch days. If you are interested in helping, please contact gechotlunch@gmail.com .
Parent volunteers are required for hot lunch set up and distribution each week. This is our biggest fundraiser and requires a robust group of volunteers who enjoy the added perk of visiting their kids during lunch hour.
Fruit & Veggie Program
This is a program offered to schools in BC by the Provincial Government. Schools are provided a single portion per student 10 times per school year. A school parent must have a food safe certificate to enable us to participate. The snack is delivered to the school on Tuesdays and the parent coordinator distributes it to the classrooms.
Traffic & Safety
This committee works with the school, municipality and police to find ways to improve and sustain traffic and safety in the school zone. If you are interested in volunteering on this committee, please contact Robyn Markham.
Book Fair
PAC manages a Scholastics Book Fair every Fall. The Book Fair is set-up in the school library. The chair of this event liaisons with Scholastics and organizes the volunteer effort, which includes set-up, promotions and staffing at the event days. Please contact Kelly Richter for more info.
The Gardening Committee
This group of gardening enthusiasts, helps improve, beautify and maintain the school grounds. Children are also encouraged to work with the volunteers to build pride and joy in the gardens they get to enjoy everyday. Please contact Rachel Clearwater for more info.
Class Parents
Class parents are the liaisons between parents, teachers and GEC PAC They help facilitate any requests teachers have for parent participation in the classroom and to communicate broader school activities (e.g. Teacher Appreciation Lunches, PAC events & fundraising initiatives, etc.). This volunteer will also arrange a class card/gift at Christmas and again in June.
Library Assistant
Library Assistants meet with the librarian to find ways to help with sorting and reshelving books and any other task to keep the library fresh and welcoming.
Sports Day
Parents come out to help referee races, cheers the kids on and track outcomes. Volunteers help serve a scrumptious healthy treat that puts a smile on the kids.
