West Vancouver School District Weather Closures and Procedures

As winter approaches, the likelihood of school disruptions due to snowfall or power outages increases. As such, I would like to provide you with some important information about the district’s weather closure of schools procedures and announcements process.

The district aims to keep schools open on every regular instructional day, including those with snowfall. However, the final decision to send students to school resides with the parent or guardian since they are most familiar with the specific road and weather conditions around their home and community.

Weather Closure of Schools (Outside School Hours)

Any decision to close schools for the safety of children will be made by the Superintendent. Parents, students, and staff will be informed of the Superintendent’s decision via: the school district website at www.westvancouverschools.ca and a synrevoice email. We endeavour to communicate this information to parents and staff by 6:00 a.m. on the day of closure.

Weather Closure of Schools (During School Hours)

If weather conditions create a concern for the safety of students returning home, the school principal can decide to dismiss school early after consulting with the Superintendent.

The decision will be communicated to parents and students using the school’s normal communication systems.

Student safety is our first priority. Every effort will be made to keep schools open, but parents are encouraged to establish a plan for their children in the event of early dismissal or school closure.

Basketball Begins

Interschool Basketball begins this week!  Interested Grade 7 girls and boys are invited to participate in this year's Basketball season. Information and permission details have been distributed to all interested students.  Thank you to coaches Meldrum and Schofield

Meet MY Teacher Parent Sessions

The Meet MY Teacher event is scheduled for this Thursday, September 14th.  There are many meetings scheduled on this day in addition to the Student Led Meet MY Teacher event.  Please note the following:

9 - 10 a.m. in the gymnasium, Kindergarten ALL parent orientation meeting

1:00 p.m. in the gymnasium, English Language Learner, ELL, parent orientation meeting

3:00 p.m. in Division 2 Classroom, Grade 7 parent orientation meeting

2 - 4:00 p.m. in student classrooms, Grades 1 - 6, Meet MY Teacher, Student Led Event

Note:  The Ice Cream Social will follow the Meet MY Teacher/Student Led Conferences.

We hope all our parents/guardians are able to join us for this opening event.

Kindergarten Parent Information Meeting

During this meeting, Principal Mrs. Brady will outline school wide procedures and processes to start the year off strong.  Kindergarten teachers Mrs. Daudlin and Mrs. Campbell will also share with parents ways to support your child as they enter their first year of school.

Mark your calendars, Thursday, September 14th, 9 - 10:30 a.m.  Location to be confirmed (gymnasium or school library).

All Parent Meeting

Please join Principal Mrs. Brady, Vice Principal Mr. Parslow, and WVS Teacher of Innovation and Learning Mrs. Wilson to learn about routines, procedures, and learning goals for the year ahead.
