Volunteering promotes goodwill and community spirit, which combined with the talents of Westcot’s teachers and staff, provides an optimal learning environment for our children. In addition, research studies show that one of the most accurate predictors of student success is the extent to which parents are involved in their children’s education. Parental volunteering at school has been shown to be associated with improved student achievement.

Book Fair

Westcot PAC manages a Scholastics Book Fair every Fall. The Book Fair is set-up in the school library. The chair of this event liaisons with Scholastics and organizes the volunteer effort, which includes set-up, promotions and staffing at the event days.

Created by Kids

This is a fundraiser that usually runs once each school year, before the month of December.

Students’ artwork is transformed into beautiful folded products.

The chair compiles the school-wide order and manages the liaison with the printing company. A group of volunteers assist in sorting and delivering of the finished postcards to the classrooms.

Fall Fair

A Family Fall Fair is a school community event that Westcot PAC hosts in the FAll to kick off a new school year. Previous years Westcot PAC has arranged food and family fun to allow our school community to connect and celebrate Westcot.  A group of voluntterrs aranges for set up, take down, promotion, tickets, food and fun.

Grade 6 Hosting Grad Promotion Lunch

The Grad Promotion is held at the end of June. Tradition at Westcot is that the Grade 6 parents do the decorations and provide the food for the Grade 7 promotion lunch. This way the Grade 7 families can focus on the celebration.

Library Assistants

Westcot’s school library needs parent volunteers who can assist the librarian on a regular basis. The librarian trains the volunteers in the tasks that need to be conducted. This is an ongoing activity throughout the school year.

Sports Day

Sports Day is normally held in June. Volunteers prepare and distribute snacks to all the participants.

Staff Appreciation Lunches

The Westcot PAC hosts two Staff Appreciation Lunches, one in October and another at the end of the school year. The Chair(s) will coordinate the events and additional parent volunteers will assist with decorating, planning/providing food, setup and cleanup.

Staff Appreciation Treats

We celebrate our staff in December by preparing and organizing gift boxes with baked treats for all staff at Westcot. The Chair(s) will coordinate the sign-up sheet to bake for this event, and appoint a handful of assistants to divide the provided baked treats into –pre-purchased gift boxes.

Terry Fox Run

Westcot supports the Terry Fox cause by hosting its own Terry Fox Run during school hours at a date close to the official Terry Fox Day. Volunteers assist in supervision of students running around a pre-set loop around the school block.
