English 9: Inquiry into Injustice

Assignment:

​To choose a form of injustice in Canada and explore it through research. The final product will be a 5-paragraph essay outline with a clear thesis.

  • highlight and write out at least 2 important quotes you would use in your essay
  • use NoodleTools to record at least 3 sources of information

Questions to Consider:

  • Does injustice still happen in Canada today? Has it happened before? What are the types of injustice we have had/are still experiencing? How has the injustice been addressed, or has it?
  • Where is it happening?  What is happening? What are/were the effects of this injustice on the people of the community?  What can be/should have been done to resolve it?

  2. Research your topic
    • Use databases, websites you have evaluated, and/or print sources
    • Locate 2 important quotes you would use in an essay
    • Record your sources in NoodleTools
  3. Write a 5-paragraph essay outline with a clear thesis
  4. Submit the final essay and works cited page for marking

  • Canadian Points of View Reference Centre (Ebsco): Click and search for thousands of essays related to environment, health, human rights, crime, race, technology, substance abuse, and many  more.
  • Canada in Context (Gale)Information on a broad range of Canadian topics, people, places and events written from a Canadian perspective.
  • Points to the Past (Gale): A collection of primary sources accessed through 28 databases. Made up of nearly 200 million pages of digitized historical content.
  • For either database: Begin with a search for your specific topic.  In some cases, you may need to add “Canada” to the topic to make sure it relates to Canada, i.e. “women’s rights Canada”.
