All courses and sections are subject to enrolment and Board approval.  Students are offered places on a first-come, first-served basis.  Late registrants for oversubscribed courses will be placed on a wait list and will be notified by email if space becomes available.

Courses with insufficient enrolment will be cancelled and registrants will be notified by email.  As all registration and course confirmation correspondence will be by email, please ensure that:

  • you are able to receive emails from @wvschools.ca by indicating that this is a safe email address in your browser settings;
  • your email address is valid and entered correctly on the form
  • you have regular access to that email address
  • you regularly check your junk folder to ensure that emails are not being redirected there inadvertently

There will be three decision dates:  May 30th, June 13th, and June 27th, 2019.  On each of those dates courses will be designated as Running, Pending, or Cancelled.

Eligibility

The BC Ministry of Education provides funding for eligible residents of British Columbia only.

Funding-eligible international students, such as those whose families are living in BC under a work/diplomatic permit or as refugees, are able to attend Summer Learning if they are currently attending school within the West Vancouver School District and will be asked to provide their student file number on the registration form.

International fee-paying and graduated students (June 2018 and earlier) must pay a fee for all courses. The list of fees is available in the Fees and Policies section of this web site. We are only able to accept registrations from fee-paying international students who are already part of the West Vancouver Schools International Program.

Attendance

Extended absences for any reason are not accommodated. These include, but are not limited to work, vacations, sporting events, games or practices, family commitments, or music festivals. Absences beyond two days may result in the student being removed from the course. Two days of late attendance are equivalent to one absence.

Please be aware that any absences in full credit or completion courses are likely to result in lost marks, as assessments are done on a daily basis.

Please do not enrol your child in a summer learning program if they are attending another program that runs at the same time. Students should not register for a summer learning course if they are unable to commit to full-time attendance.

Full-Credit Courses (4 credits)

July 3rd to August 2nd

8:30 am to 1:00 pm

Successful completion of Summer Learning Full-Credit courses depends on the commitment of the student. West Vancouver School District recommends that students must:

  • be highly motivated;
  • have very good work habits and excellent attendance;
  • have obtained at least a C+ in the prerequisite and related courses.

A midterm report will be sent home with the students in the third week of classes and a final report card will be sent to the students’ home school where it can be picked up when school reopens in September.   Students who wish to receive a copy in the mail prior to September may bring a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Summer Learning Office.

Students enroled in a Completion Course will be working on a personal action plan in order to successfully complete the learning outcomes of the course in order to achieve a passing grade. There may also be time to consolidate learning by further developing competencies and skills.

On the first day of classes, students must submit to their teacher the ‘In Progress’(I) report which was attached to their final report card.

For the first three days students will not be expected to attend full time.  They will be individually scheduled to meet with their teachers to create a personal action plan which will be based on their Interim “I” report recommendations and additional assessments that will be conducted on site at those times.
