Structure

Instruction for all Summer Learning 2024 classes will be in person.

Registering for Summer Learning is a choice and once registered, students will be expected to participate fully in all classes. Other accommodations will not be possible.

Communication

An email confirming successful submission of the registration request will be sent to the parent email address entered on the registration form. All other communications will be via the information in your child’s MyEducationBC profile. MyEducationBC is the student data information system used by all BC public schools.

If your child attends a BC public or independent school that uses MyEducationBC, all communication for Summer Learning will be via the information currently in your child’s MyEdBC profile. If any changes are required, you are responsible for contacting the office of your child’s current school or logging into the parent portal to have their profile updated.

If your child attends a school that does not use MyEducationBC, a profile will be created for them for the purposes of Summer Learning. Information from the completed registration form will be used to create that profile.

West Vancouver Schools and the Summer Learning program are not responsible for missed communication due to email settings or inaccurate contact and address information.

Summer Learning Student Placement Priority

Priority for student placement in a Summer Learning course is as follows:

1. Students who currently attend a West Vancouver Schools public school
2. Students who reside in the District of West Vancouver (including Bowen Island and Lions Bay)
3. Students who reside outside the District of West Vancouver and do not currently attend a West Vancouver Schools public school

Priority for placement in all full-credit courses is based on the students’ grade level, starting with students going into Grade 12.

Within each priority category (catchment and grade level), registrations are ordered by time/date stamp of registration form submission, earliest first.

Grade 8 students are not permitted to request or register for full-credit courses during Summer Learning and Grade 9 students will only be permitted to request full-credit courses at the Grade 10 level.

Summer Learning administration reserves the right to adjust priority based on an individual student’s educational needs.

Students not currently attending public school in West Vancouver will be required to submit documentation in order to complete the registration process.

Attendance Policy

Daily attendance for Summer Learning is required. Students are expected to fully participate in all classes. Other accommodations will not be possible.

Absences beyond two days or behaviour deemed to be inappropriate may result in the student being removed from the program. Two days of late attendance are equivalent to one absence. No refunds for fee‐paying students will be granted if the student is removed for not attending school.

Extended absences for any reason are not accommodated. These include, but are not limited to work, vacations, sporting events, games or practices, family commitments, or music festivals. Students should not register for a summer learning course if they are unable to commit to full-time attendance.
