Traffic & Safety Information

The Traffic and Safety Committee was formed to address the many concerns of parents and SD45 staff in regard to increased traffic around district schools. A community approach was taken involving the District of West Vancouver (DWV) and West Vancouver School District (WVSD) and the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC) as well as ICBC.

The Traffic and Safety Committee mandate is to develop recommendations to improve pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety around all our school sites. Ideas are submitted and (budget allowing) resources are directed to alleviate these issues in the short and long term.

Student School Travel Video Contest

WE HAVE A WINNER!
Congratulations to Bill Li, Mackey Zhou, Cindy Zeng, and Derek Wu who shared the top prize for their entry in the Sentinel Sustainable Commuting Initiative competition.  The video effectively captures the frustration we all feel when stuck in traffic, and the sense of freedom and fun that comes when we can choose alternatives.  The judges said it was funny, engaging and very clear in its message.

Watch the WINNING VIDEO here.

Bike to school week is May 29- Jun 2. If you haven’t register already take a look at the links before:

Secondary Schools

Secondary schools are encouraged to register through Go by Bike Week and track their trips using our online tracking tool instead of through Bike to School Week. To sign up, a member from the high school will act as your team leader, setting up the high school as a ‘team’ by registering the school at bikehub.ca/registration. After creating a team, your team leader is able to invite fellow students and teachers to join your team. They are eligible to win Go by Bike Week prizes by logging trips through our tracking tool. In addition a separate set of prizes are also awarded to top-performing high school students (e.g., most trips logged, most km logged, the top rider from new school).

  • Some Digital Parenting Thoughts for 2025 January 14, 2025
I shared my “Word for 2025” last week, but I am still thinking about the year ahead.  I know in school-life the real new year starts in September, but January is a good time to reset and reassess. And just as we do that in school, I know it is happening in homes as well. […]
  • My One Word for 2025 – Thrive January 7, 2025
As change accelerates at an unprecedented pace, particularly with AI, 2025 calls for something deeper than speed—it calls for thriving. After a year devoted to acceleration in 2024, I find myself drawn to a word that represents not just progress, but flourishing in every aspect of leadership and life. Whether it’s coaching youth sports, lacing […]
  • My “Top 3” List for 2024 December 26, 2024
Here we are – a final post for year 15 on Culture of yes. As another year comes to a close, I find myself looking back at 2024 and all the moments that made it memorable. It’s become a tradition for me to reflect on the year and put together a “Top 3” list—just a […]
  • AI in Education: A Year of Discovery, Anxiouness and Hope December 17, 2024
This is not my last post of the year, but as we move through the middle December I wanted to pull together various threads and posts from this year on AI, and a few thoughts about what comes next. I find myself reflecting on what has been a transformative year for me as an educator, […]
  • Taylor Swift’s Masterclass: Lessons in Leadership for Schools December 10, 2024
When the 2-minute countdown clock appeared on the jumbotron, the crowd was already in a frenzy. Our bracelets, which would soon flash in unison, hadn’t even activated yet. A 3+ hour phenomenon ensued—a concert that was part live music, part immersive storytelling. This past weekend I joined more than 150,000 “Swifties” for the final 3 […]
