Graphic Production (Yearbook)

Enrollment is open to all students in grades 10, 11, and 12. There is no pre-requisite for this course. Students are expected to work cooperatively as a team to meet deadlines in producing the yearbook and the online magazine, RockZine. There will be times that students will need to come early in the morning, stay after school, or come in the evening to do event coverage. Evaluation will be based on general computer skills, organizational/leadership skills, communication skills, yearbook publication skills, and photography skills. Students who do not present work at a minimal standard may be removed from work on the yearbook and meet learning outcomes through alternate assignments. Other individual/group assignments include:

  • Designing and implementing surveys
  • Analyzing survey data
  • Marketing and selling ads
  • Shooting digital photography
  • Manipulating and formatting photos
  • Cropping photos
  • Page design and layout
  • Designing an online magazine – RockZine
  • Distributing the yearbook
  • Gathering data from a focus group

There is an optional enhancement fee for this course. Students will receive a complimentary copy of the yearbook with payment of the fee.

In all the courses above, there will be a number of assignments and quizzes in each module done individually and/or in-groups. A  concept map and a rationale synthesizing of what was learned in each term will also be completed.
