YEAR 4 ARTS EDUCATION 9

(MAE-09-IB)

In Art 9 creative approaches to image development are explored and students will begin to develop their own creative voice and style. The application of the elements and principles of design is extended into several areas of visual expression; drawing, painting, graphics, sculpture, and ceramics. Students will have the opportunity to view, discuss and critique the work of other artists including their peers. Students will use their sketchbook to draw, design, paint, explore and take notes on techniques learned in class.

Visual Arts: Art Studio 11 (formerly Art Foundations 11)

(MVAST11~4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

The Visual Arts curriculum promotes self-expression, self-identity and connecting to artists and art processes in the student’s art community and that of other parts of the world. Projects created in Art Studio 11 explore the Elements and Principles of Design as they apply that understanding to projects ranging from realistic pencil illustrations to 3D ceramic sculptures and digital design. Students will participate in a wide range of aesthetic experiences and contexts with an emphasis on skill development, taking creative and stylistic risks and developing conceptual thinking. Students at this level are beginning to explore their creative potential.

Visual Arts: Art Studio 12 (formerly Art Foundations 12)

(MVAST12~4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

The Visual Arts curriculum promotes self-expression, self-identity and connecting to artists and art processes in the student’s art community and that of other parts of the world. Students in Art Studio 12 will explore the Elements and Principles of Design as they apply that understanding to projects ranging from life and still life projects, to 3D Design, digital media and printmaking. Students will demonstrate their creative voice as they create independent projects that reflect their conceptual decision making, artistic skills and stylistic area of interest.

Visual Arts: Studio Arts 2D 11 Enriched (Pre AP)

(MVAST11~11 4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

The Visual Arts curriculum promotes self-expression, self-identity and connecting to artists and art processes in the student’s art community and that of other parts of the world. Students will explore the Elements and Principles of Design while creating projects that continue to refine their artistic skills and techniques for a variety of styles. Students are challenged to intentionally select and combine materials and processes to convey ideas that demonstrate innovation and engagement as they explore a wide range of 2D mediums. Students will be exposed to a wide range of movements, periods and contexts and as the year progresses, students will develop an independent portfolio of work exploring a conceptual direction of their choosing. This rigorous course is highly recommended prior to students enrolling in AP 12.

Visual Arts: Studio Arts 2D 12 (formerly Drawing and Painting)

(MVAD-11~4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

The Visual Arts curriculum promotes self-expression, self-identity and connecting to artists and art processes in the student’s art community and that of other parts of the world. Students will explore the Elements and Principles of Design while creating projects that continue challenge and improve their artistic skills and techniques from a variety of styles. Students will intentionally select and combine materials and processes to convey ideas that demonstrate innovation and engagement as they explore a wide range of 2D mediums. Students will explore art and design careers and examine a wide range of movements, periods and contexts. Students will develop a personal voice in their work and through discussion and critique, begin to focus their projects on media and styles of their choosing.

Visual Arts: Studio Arts 3D 11 (formerly Ceramics and Sculpture 10)

(MVAC11~4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

The Visual Arts curriculum promotes self-expression, self-identity and connecting to artists and art processes in the student’s art community and that of other parts of the world. Students will begin to explore the skills and techniques required in 2D media design. design specific language associated with 3D artistic works . Work is inspired through inquiry, planned and revised in both 2D and 3D prior to being constructed in a wide range of 3D mediums. Skills are developed and refined and work is created for specific audiences and purposes as the year progresses. Students will actively engage in creating works as they resolve creative challenges.

Visual Arts: Studio Arts 3D 11 (formerly Ceramics and Sculpture 11)

(MVAC11~4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

The Visual Arts curriculum promotes self-expression, self-identity and connecting to artists and art processes in the student’s art community and that of other parts of the world. Students will explore the design specific language associated with 3D artistic works. Work is inspired through inquiry, planned and revised in both 2D and 3D prior to being constructed in a wide range of 3D mediums. Skills are developed and refined and work is created for specific audiences and purposes as the year progresses. Students will explore 3D Design applications and related career directions. At this level students may wish to create an AP Portfolio for submission in their Grade 12 year.

Visual Arts: Studio Arts 3D 12 (formerly Ceramics and Sculpture 12 and AP 3D)

(MVAC-12~4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

The Visual Arts curriculum promotes self-expression, self-identity and connecting to artists and art processes in the student’s art community and that of other parts of the world. Students will explore the design specific language associated with 3D artistic works. Work is inspired through inquiry, planned and revised in both 2D and 3D prior to being constructed in a wide range of 3D mediums (wood, clay, found objects, metal, plaster). Skills are developed and refined and work is created for specific audiences and purposes as the year progresses. Students will explore 3D Design applications and related career directions.

AP ART COURSES

These courses are rigorous art courses for those who are interested in pursuing their own artistic passions.  Permission from the instructor is required.  Work is assessed by the America College Board and mandatory out of the timetables sessions take place after school on Tuesdays.

 AP STUDIO ARTS: DRAWING 12

(ASAD-12 ~ 4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

This course is made available to accommodate students who have expressed an interest in completing a first-year post secondary course credit while still in high school. Teacher directed units will be presented in accordance with College Board Evaluation requirements. Emphasis will be placed on attaining a volume of quality finished pieces (24). As well, students will be both challenged and mentored in developing their own personal concentrations.  

Optional fee for enrichment materials-$70.

 To receive Advanced Placement credit, student portfolios must be evaluated by the College Board in May.

Prerequisite = Studio Arts: D & P: Pre AP 12.  Teacher permission is required to enrol in this course as well as enrolment in another senior art block.  

AP 2D/3D DESIGN PORTFOLIO

(A2DP-12 ~ 4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

VISUAL ARTS: ARTS YEAR 4-MEDIA ARTS

(MADMA09-IB)

This course is an introductory course to Media Arts and open to any grade 9 students. Many of Modern-Day Media Arts works are computer based, and this course is intended for you to feel comfortable about making connections between Media Arts and computer technology by creating and exploring a variety of Media Arts works. There are several units in each term in which you will work with Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. As many of the Media Arts works are photography-based, you will also learn basic Photography.

VISUAL ARTS: MEDIA ARTS 11

(MVAMT11 ~ 4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

This is an introductory course to Media Arts and open to any students with no experience in Media Arts. It is also open to students who have taken Media Arts 9 (you will be dealing with more artistic themes and subjects using new techniques and effects). You will work on various design principles and techniques using Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. As many of the Media Arts works are photography-based, you will also explore basic Photography.

Optional fee for enrichment materials-$40.

Recommended Preliminary Course= Visual Arts: Media Arts 9

VISUALS ARTS: MEDIA ARTS 12

(MVAMT12 ~ 4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

This is a second-year Media Arts course and open to any students with Media Arts 11 credit. You will continue to cultivate various design principles and techniques. There are several units in each term in which you work with different with more refined and complex Media Arts effects using Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. As many of the Media Arts works are photography-based, you will also continue to explore Photography, and you will be encouraged to seek opportunities to take photos outside the class to enhance your art work.

VISUAL ARTS: MEDIA ARTS: PHOTOGRAPHY 11

(MVAPH11 ~ 4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)

This is an introductory course to Photography and open to any students with no experience in Art or Photography. You will need a digital camera that you can use to take photographs. Any digital cameras would be sufficient. There are several units in each term in which you will work with different photographic settings, themes, and subjects.

Recommended Preliminary Course = Art Foundations 9 or Visual Arts: Media Arts 9

 

VISUAL ARTS: MEDIA ARTS: PHOTOGRAPHY 12

(MVAPH12 ~ 4 CREDITS FINE ARTS)  

 

This is a second-year Photography course and open to any students with Photography 11 credit. You will need a digital camera with “manual controls” that you can use to take photographs. Any digital cameras with “manual controls” would be sufficient. There are several units in each term in which you will work with more complex and refined photographic settings, themes, and subjects.

Optional fee for enrichment materials-$40.

Recommended Preliminary Course= Visual Arts: Media Art (Photography 11)  – Since many of the assignments use skills and knowledge in Photography 11, it is strongly recommended to take Photography 11 prior to Photography 12 to ensure success.
