For students entering grades 6 & 7

This program is designed to expose students to a variety of digital art and media experiences, including photography, stop-motion animation, green screen technology, video production, sound production and animation. The goal is to give students a variety of creative, digital methods of expressing themselves.

*Please note: This is a one-year program. For example, if students complete the program in Grade 6, there is not an additional, different program for that same student who then transitions to Grade 7.

Goals & Benefits of this Program:

  • Exposure to a variety of digital art and media apps and sites
  • Provide opportunities for positive digital self-expression
  • Work in collaborative groups to produce content

The Schedule

The Ignite Your Passion program runs one day per week throughout the school year.

Day: Monday
Time: 3:30 – 5:00 p.m.
Location: West Vancouver Secondary School (Room T104)

Start Date: Monday, September 12, 2022
End Date: Monday, June 19, 2023

Students interested in this program complete & submit the Student Information Form. Once the teacher reviews the application form & confirms student acceptance into the program, Assistant, Ms. Tara Ledingham will follow up with the applicable paperwork.

Cari Wilson

Cari Wilson is an educator with over 20 years of classroom experience, whereby much of her classroom teaching was conducted in a BYOD (Bring Your Own Devices) environment. Ms. Wilson has a Master’s Degree in Education Technology, is a Google Certified Teacher and has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished Educator. Ms. Wilson is currently the 1st Vice-President of CUEBC (Computer Using Educators of BC) and she sits on several Ed-Tech related committees.

Along with her role as one of the district’s Ignite Your Passion (IYP) teachers, Ms. Wilson is also a District Innovation & Technology Lead Teacher, as well as one of the Premier Mechatronics Robotics Academy (Grades 9-12) teachers. Ms. Wilson leads many in-district and out-of-district workshops and in-services.

Ms. Wilson continues to encourage more females to get excited about STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) as there are so many opportunities as students move towards post-secondary.
