Warm/Dry Outerwear & Winter Weather Closures

January 4, 2021 - 1 minute read

The wet and cold winter weather has arrived. This is a reminder to parents that students are expected to play outside at recess and lunch recess at Irwin Park. The children benefit from the exercise, socializing and the break this time provides. Only in extreme weather will students be kept inside during these breaks. Students should be coming to school in outerwear and footwear appropriate for our winter climate so they can stay dry and warm while playing outside.

The West Vancouver School district aims to keep schools open on every regular instructional day but with winter weather sometimes unpredictable the likelihood of school disruptions due to snowfall or power outages increases. Any decision to close schools for the safety of children will be made by the Superintendent. Parents, students, and staff will be informed of the Superintendent’s decision via a broadcast email by 6 AM on the day of closure and on the SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS page of the school district website.  School closure information may also appear on several local news sources including: News 1130- http://www.news1130.com/, CKNW 9- http://www.cknw.com/news/, Global TV – http://globalnews.ca/live/bc/ and CBC – http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia.
