Secondary Programs

All courses and sections are subject to enrolment and Board approval. Students are placed in courses according to the Summer Learning Placement Priority outlined on the Summer Learning home page. Late registrants for oversubscribed courses will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified by email if space becomes available. Courses with insufficient enrolment will be cancelled and all registrants will be notified through email. Program details such as dates, times, and courses are subject to change.

Students who have completed Grades 7 – 11 by June 30, 2024 are eligible to register for Secondary Summer Learning courses.

Grade 8 students are not permitted to request or register for full-credit courses, and Grade 9 students will only be permitted to request full-credit courses at the Grade 10 level.

Graduated students (June 2024 or earlier) are not eligible for Summer Learning, but can register with an adult education centre. Visit bcsdceda.ca for more details. School aged non-graduated students born after July 1, 2005 are eligible to register for Summer Learning.

Secondary Course Offerings

Full Credit Courses (4 credits)

For students currently in grades 9-11.

Tuesday, July 2nd – Friday, July 26th, 2024
8:30am – 1:19pm

Successful completion of Summer Learning Full-Credit courses depends on the commitment of the student. West Vancouver School District recommends that students must:

  • be motivated to complete a course during the Summer months;
  • be committed to attending all classes.

A midterm report will be sent home with the students in the second week of classes and a final report card will be sent to the students’ home school where it can be picked up when school reopens in September. Students who wish to receive a copy in the mail prior to September may being a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the Summer Learning Office.

Grade 8 students are not permitted to request or register for full-credit courses, and Grade 9 students will only be permitted to request full-credit courses at the grade 10 level.

Preview and Review Courses (non-credit)
For students currently in grades 7 or 8

Two Different Sessions:
Tuesday, July 2nd to Friday, July 12th, 2024 and Tuesday, July 16th to Friday, July 26th, 2024
8:30am to 1:17pm
Students may register for one or both sessions if they wish, in different courses.

If requesting two different Preview and Review courses for July, your child will be assigned to the applicable course/session by Summer Learning staff. Your course selection will be honoured, the session (Session 1 or Session 2) will be determined by staff.

Preview and review courses will introduce some of the curriculum and learning outcomes of the course students will be taking in September, and will provide revision and consolidation of skills and concepts learned in the course during the previous school year. Students will receive an anecdotal final report upon completion of the course. No letter grades will be given and no credit will be granted.
