Why choose West Vancouver Schools?

Our International Programs were the first in Canada to welcome global students into our country’s public schools. We’ve not only offered our courses since 1982, we have developed one of the best international education programs in British Columbia and Canada.

West Vancouver has one of the highest Dogwood Completion rates in the province. We graduate between 97-98% of our students each year and they earn the highest percentage of Provincial Government Scholarships of any school district in the province. More than 14% of West Vancouver students are awarded government examination scholarships; the provincial average is only 10%. All 17 outstanding schools in our District—14 elementary and three high schools—have the most advanced technology and facilities of any in our province.

Every year since the government began Foundation Skills Assessments (FSA) program, West Vancouver students have had the highest scores in all three test categories: Reading and Writing in English, and Mathematics. Over 95% of students in grades 4 to 7 meet or exceed expectations on government exams in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.

West Vancouver also has the highest percentage of students taking the academic university entrance courses of any school district in the Vancouver area. Over 80% of our graduates go on to post-secondary education. We have a 70% success rate of entry into the University of British Columbia (UBC), an institution consistently ranked within the top 30 universities in the world.

West Vancouver is a beautiful community with the majestic Coast Mountains to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south—and we are only 20 minutes from downtown Vancouver!  World-class Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains—the village of Whistler co-hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics—are only a 90-minute drive from West Vancouver. Even closer, Cypress Mountain, which also hosted Olympic events, is a great place to ski, snowboard, and enjoy amazing city views—only 20 minutes from the centre of West Vancouver.
