Sentinel Secondary has an excellent working relationship with the West Vancouver Police department and in particular with some of its members. Our liaison officers are often present and visible in the school and can be seen interacting positively with the students. Victoria Wilcott, sponsor teacher, and Sentinel’s Student Council welcomed a partnership with Cst. Jeff Palmer and the WVPD, to raise funds for pediatric research and Camp Goodtimes. Camp Goodtimes is a summer recreation program for teens affected by cancer. The devastating impact of cancer has touched so many that the students felt very connected to this initiative. The students at Sentinel Secondary worked and donated to a great cause and supported the 2016 Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast team and in particular the West Vancouver riders Cst. Petrie and Cst. Guiel.
With the goal of fundraising for pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes, the Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast team pedaled over 800km over 9 days. Sentinel students started their fundraising with a school wide pancake breakfast on June 3rd and their efforts culminated with a visit from the riders on their tour stop on September 26th. Students flocked to the front of the school to meet and listen to the riders. The riders engaged the students and thanked them for their support. Our students’ generosity and fundraising efforts helped both Cst. Petrie and Cst. Guiel meet and exceed their fundraising target. In total these two raised over $17,000 for pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes!
