A Look Back at 2015-2016

It is exciting to look through the pages of the Cedardale Memory book each year to remind ourselves what a busy and engaging place that Cedardale is. This year is no exception.path photo

The highlights of this year are many, from the adoption of our new mission statement to the opening of the new wing of the school. September 2015, our community saw the redesign of many existing spaces: a new main office, student washrooms, new kitchen, new staffroom and a refinished upper hallway.

After spring break, Grade 6 and 7 students moved into new classrooms in what used to be an outside undercover space, and finally, our community has seen the opening of the new Library Learning Commons, new elevator, new washrooms and new cooperative learning spaces.

We have been graced with the support of the Squamish Nation, both through the stories and guidance from Mr. Baker and learning from Xwalacktun (Rick Harry) the artist that completed the house post.

We have much be proud of as Hawks. Our learners are well rounded individuals demonstrating their talents in the Arts with our partnership with Tony Latour, our artist in residence through the Vancouver Biennale; and displayed proudly on the stage at the Kay Meek in our performance of Peter Pan Jr.

We have strong athletes, from our large teams in every District sport: Cross-country running, Basketball, Volleyball, Ultimate, and Track and Field- to having our first District championship trophy in the case – Congratulations Grade 6-7 Girls Basketball! And we have avid scholars in the academics, from sending students to the Provincial finals of French Public Speaking to sending student projects to be judged at the Smithsonian!

IBlogo125pxOur community is a special one, through the strong support of our parent group our amazing staff, and our enthusiastic learners the school continues to break new ground. We look forward to being the first French Immersion School in British Columbia that is authorized as an International Baccalaureate PYP school.

And so, as Ecole Cedardale continues to forge ahead in its second decade as a French Immersion school, I would like to draw our attention back to our mission statement as it continues to set our vision for the years to come. Go Hawks!

École Cedardale aspires to create a caring, inclusive and engaging collaborative community of multi-lingual lifelong learners.  Through knowledge, creativity and inquiry we are inspired to think critically and take action both locally and globally in an environment of mutual respect.
